About

Casonti McClure was born and raised in a gallery to Artist-Educator parents. Her mother was one of the founding members of the Southern Arizona Designer Craftsmen, so Casonti grew up attending art shows, hanging out in many of the artist’s studios, and enjoying the opportunity to create from an early age. Her parents felt it was important to have exposure to the art world at an early age, attending museum shows of Monet, Matisse, Chigall, Calder and her Mother’s favorite Picasso, even attending a world craft conference in Ireland.

Casonti was very shy as a young child and her mother felt she could benefit from taking improvisational dance classes, but Casonti just sat on the side and observed the class. The instructor told her mother that Casonti appeared to be more interested in visual art not dance movement. Casonti would only dance at home, so her mother continued to send her to class, and eventually she developed a passion and voice through dance.

Statement

My work is greatly impacted by my 16 years as a dancer/educator; I have always said that creating dance is like painting in three dimensions. Now that I am working on canvas, I still look for the flow and movement of color. I am most comfortable with the abstract form, letting the color flow through the space creating dimension and depth. My intention is to create a mood or emotional response to the image, drawing the viewer in and allowing them to find something new each time they look at the painting.
